Visit to Safa Water Treatment and bottling unit was organized for us Engineering
Graphics students of Ideal Indian School. The visit provided real word experience of
the industrial process of water production, from beginning to end: from the initial
treatment and purification of the water to the final product that is delivered to
consumers.
At the beginning, we were given a brief introduction by Mr Laiju, a chemist working at
Safa water. After a short video giving a brief of the company, valuable facts about
Safa water was shared by Mr Laiju as well.
Safa is a water treatment company, providing pure mineral water for more than 20
years in Qatar, and the first company in Qatar to be given the quality mark emblem.
It is an ISO 22000 company which uses minerals imported mainly from Germany and
other countries as well. The company has a workforce of 500 individuals, has 200
trucks, and most of the machinery works through hydraulics.
After this session with Mr Laiju, students were next assisted by Mr Arul, production
manager at Safa water. He gave them explanation and showed them the industrial
preparation of water in the company.

A brief is as follows:
Water at Safa is first supplied from a public distribution system (PDS) from
Kahramaa. The water quality is checked internally by Safa and treated accordingly,
specifically with Magnesium Sulphate (MgSO4) and Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3)
and Ozone, as it is a powerful disinfectant. This water is transferred from and
underwater tank to a GRP tank then taken to a sand filter, where high particles settle
down and light particles float up, easing purification. It is then passed through two
carbon filters to remove remaining chlorine, smell etc. This purified water is then
pumped to the filling room.

Before bottles are filled, they are rinsed thoroughly from the inside and outside in
designated machines. After this, the bottles are filled with the purified water, covered
with its cap, go through a light screening to check for an impurities and are finally
sealed with a plastic covering called a sleeve. This final product is finally loaded onto
the trucks and the product is ready for delivery and consumption.
Students were then given the opportunity to ask questions on the production and
marketing process at Safa water. The staff was friendly and eager to answer
doubts and feed hunger of curiosity. Meeting the Marketing Manager and
Manager of Safa water was also a great opportunity offered to the students
Engineering Graphics students really appreciate Safa Water Treatment and
Bottling unit for giving their time into educating us on the real word industrial
experience .
