  ORGAN DONATION[story]

Here’s a story by Abhinav Prasad which is deeply touching and beautifully crafted. Abhinav has expressed the pain of loss and the miracle of organ donation with rare sensitivity and strength. The imagery of lives continuing like butterflies moving from flower to flower is powerful and unforgettable. Abhinav ‘s words honour true heroes and turn grief into hope. A truly meaningful and impactful piece.

ABHINAV PRASAD 11-D

NOT AN END BUT A NEW BEGINNING FOR MANY

What a life, that super Almighty had given to all of us. We all rejoice when our birthday
arrives, celebrating the day we were born, yet how often do we pause to reflect on the word
DEATH? A few days ago, my mom was reading an article aloud, and her words struck me
deeply. It was about a man – no perhaps calling him just a man is not enough an Angel (no
that also we cannot, for these type of humanist).

He was a photographer, a journalist, a husband, a son above all a father of 2-year-old our
younger brother. A little brother of us in this world whom we may never meet or know, yet
whose innocent face carried a sorrow beyond words. Yes, his father is no more for him, met
with an accident (so called viciousness) of life. I have often felt that many such accidents
are created by humans and are not truly God’s calling, but rather the result of some men’s
impatience reckless rush to reach a destiny faster than the Almighty wills, whereby leaving
the life deserted of a FAMILY.

His name was Issac George, a person whose BIRTHDAY AND DEATH ANNIVERSARY will
be celebrated on the same day, became a light to others; while crossing the road a vehicle
came and hit, felt down with the speed, ended in brain death. Despite their immense grief,
his family honored his wish for Organ donation. Through that single act of generosity, he
continues to live in this world through 6 persons, should I call you Almighty; you are not
dead, still alive in this world. His heart still beats within another, he cannot stop taking
photographs his eyes still capture beauty through someone else’s gaze, his kidney, liver,
hands what all can be donated still sustain life.

From his body, he has become like abutterfly, fluttering across many flowers, alive in different forms, touching countless lives.
It was not just the one I had spoken of earlier there were others too, each carrying their
own untold story, one such I read about another mother who every year on her son’s death
anniversary visits the recipient of his hand transplant. She cuts a cake there, holding and
kissing the hand that once belonged to her son, where both mother and son pampered for
25 years; the first touch she felt when he was a baby; yes, her son is still alive in this world.
There can be no greater act of kindness than Organ donation, it defies death itself. Through
the same we are living in different flowers whereby challenging the word DEATH and can
laugh at him and tell “I have conquered you”. Yes, I am thinking by the death of one
person one life may end, but through organ donation, many more can begin.

These do-gooders are not gone. They are still alive through every smile, every breath they
gifted – still taking photographs, telling stories, still traveling through the lives of those they
saved and exploring this world. They are butterflies moving from flower to flower, carrying
beauty wherever they go.

Not gone…..just living in many places at once.
